Don Emilio: The New Fire of a Mexican Brand

Don Emilio started with an advantage that is difficult to manufacture: a recognized product, a strong tradition, and an identity deeply connected to Mexican cuisine. The problem appeared on the packaging. The amount of messaging, graphic resources, seals, and two languages competing within a limited surface weakened the hierarchy and made a brand with plenty to say communicate too much at once. The strategy identified a clear opportunity: refine the system so origin, variety, and product could regain prominence.

The solution reorganizes the packaging around a clearer reading structure and creates a more precise separation between the product brand and secondary information. The new logo gains presence through a more direct typographic construction, accompanied by “Authentic Mexican Salsa Macha” as a statement of origin. The system preserves the expressive, popular character of Mexico while introducing an architecture capable of organizing each product and assigning distinct color codes to the different sauces. The hexagonal glass jar remains a recognizable brand asset; the label now works with it rather than competing for attention.

The creative concept takes this reorganization into a deeper narrative territory. “La Gran Velada” imagines a celebration inspired by Mesoamerican deities, connecting each sauce with specific attributes, symbols, and ingredients. Morita chili, garlic chili, chile de árbol, and peanut with selected seeds gain their own characters, stories, and color palettes; pre-Hispanic-inspired illustrations, patterns, and intense colors turn each variety into a chapter within the same universe. Technical information remains present — ingredients, heat level, nutritional facts, and Mexican origin — but now occupies a clearly defined place within the composition.

The result strengthens Don Emilio’s ability to compete on shelf without sacrificing the energy that has always been part of its history. Packaging, identity, storytelling, and communication extend into outdoor advertising, transportation, merchandising, and digital with a consistent logic. The redesign transforms a visually saturated brand into a more legible and scalable system, where Mexican culture functions as a narrative structure and each jar regains its primary role: making the product recognizable before the consumer has to decipher it.
