Circle of Celebration — Diwali Hamper Packaging

A geometric exploration of festivity, inspired by the work of Indian modernist painter S.H. Raza— specifically his use of the bindu and reduction of form into pure geometry.

The design breaks the box surface into a modular grid of squares and rectangles, each holding an abstracted symbol: concentric circles standing in for the sun and diya flame, triangular motifs echoing Raza’s compositions, botanical line work, and radiating rings that shift between ornamental and cosmic. The palette moves through deep reds, ochres, forest greens, and midnight blue — warm and festive, but restrained rather than literal or decorative.

At the centre of the composition sits a single bindu, isolated in a black circular seal that doubles as the closure point of the box. It functions the way a bindu does in Raza’s paintings— a point of stillness and focus that everything else in the composition radiates from or returns to.

The base of the box shifts to a solid navy, finished with gold foil linework and lettering, giving the piece a quieter, more premium moment in contrast to the density of pattern on the lid.

The brief was unusual in that it started with a single name rather than a mood board or set of references— a reminder that constraints framed around art, rather than category norms, often produce packaging that doesn’t look like anything else on the shelf.
